Cupcakes!

Anyone else obsessed with cupcakes at the moment? I've got a sudden addiction to them. Cupcakes have made a serious comeback lately, with cupcake boutiques popping up in all the trendy neighbourhoods. I'm a particular fan of mini or baby cupcakes - they're the perfect guilt-free size to complement your cup of tea...


I made some mini lemon cupcakes for an afternoon tea at the studio last week. They were quite the hit! It sparked a conversation reflecting on childhood birthday cakes (Aussie readers, remember the Aus. Women's Weekly Birthday Cake book?). Two days ago I made baby chocolate cupcakes, I got creative and put a raspberry in the middle before going in the oven. Sooooooo yummy!








So I'm thinking of all the different variations to try next - flavor essences (Peppermint, Vanilla...), food colouring mixed into icing, sprinkles of all kinds (you can buy edible glitter now). There are some serious designs out there, but as long as it's quick and uncomplicated then I'll try it. The great thing about baby cupcakes is they only take 5-10 minutes in the oven, so it's super easy to whip up!
