Stitchy Goodness

Whilst I'm whinging about tonsillitis - I had another group show opening tonight at Kaleidoscope Gallery in Paddington. I had originally ordered some ornate black baroque style frames, but the mat board was all wrong when it arrived. So I decided to whip up some new work at a different size and recut the matboard myself. Yeah, bad idea...So in a mad scramble I managed to get an extension till the next morning (this morning) to courier the artwork to the gallery. I still had a few other empty frames from some months ago laying around, so I decided to create something overnight.

I certainly don't recommend doing that very often. I sat outside at 8:30am waiting for the courier, having just finished the works, trying not to fall asleep. I've spent the rest of the day sleeping and resting up since my night owl antics set me back recovery-wise with my tonsillitis. But, funny enough, these are my favorite pieces lately. I think I might do two more just for myself, to decorate my bare walls.

The show is open for two weeks at Kaleidoscope Gallery, 84 William St, Paddington.

See the pics here.

The 7 Deadly Sins

Well, getting slammed with tonsillitis for the second time this year doesn't seem to have stopped me getting any work done. I've been super busy finishing artwork for two shows along with some commissions. I can now reveal to you the full images of The 7 Deadly Sins series - which debuted at Gallery Burlesque last night in Sydney. Hopefully there will be some pics of opening night, since I couldn't make it.

Clearance Sale

More shameless self-promotion I'm afraid. Just a quick note to let you know that until the end of September everything in my store is 25% off. I'm clearing out all the fine art/archival quality prints I have in stock and closing down the store.

I'll be opening a new store instead under the Art of Jordan brand rather than my personal name. There won't be any prints available for sale in the new store - it will be exclusively for original and framed artworks. So this is your last chance to grab a fine art print!

Cheap As Chips Art

Perhaps, if you follow me on FB/Twitter, you will have heard that Signed+Numbered in Melbourne opened last week. It's a new gallery concept which is closer to a record-store layout in it's laidback, easy-going approach to selling art. No need to be intimidated by stark white walls and price tags that give you heart attacks - simply pop in, flick through the stacks and pick out a few limited edition prints for next to nothing. Of course, if you're not in Melbourne, you can always hop online to browse and buy. They'll even arrange framing for you. Sweet.

These are a few pics of the store and opening night. I think this is a brilliant idea and I'd love to see more of this around. Everyone is an art lover, really, they just don't know it!

I've created three illustrations exclusively for S+N - which look nice on their own or all together. There are only 15 of each, so once they're all sold that's it! No more print runs. They're printed on lovely thick Hahnemühle Photo Rag Ultra Smooth paper and signed by moi.

A Little Vintage
Va-Va-Voom

So you may or may not remember I recently bought two vintage skirts - one pale pink, hi-waist wool pencil skirt and a cherry-red wool wiggle skirt. I am totally in love with them. And I'm always trying to find ways of wearing them with a slight twist, rather than authentically emulating their original styling (remember this post?).

One thing I have noticed is that I need to watch my tummy and derriere - I need to be careful which knickers I choose that day and keep reminding myself to suck in my tum. But then I discovered the good ol' girdle. Something your Nanna knew all about and most of today's burlesque artists are on intimate terms with. I have to say that modern shapewear can learn a thing or two from times of old when it comes to the aesthetics of structured undies.

I mean, just look at that girdle! It's a piece of art. It's something you wouldn't be afraid of wearing in front of your boyfriend. In fact, he'll probably like it. The other beautiful feature of girdles is the garter straps. As every good pin-up girl knows there is something oh-so-sexy about sheer stockings that need to be rolled on and off with extra care and delicately fastened (just look at all the imitation suspender stockings around lately). It might be shapewear vintage-stylee, but it beats full brief stockings and modern shapewear anyday. [I will confess there are some nice, chic shapewear garments around today, but nothing with the detail of yesteryear].

So to celebrate my discovery and to preface my jolly jaunt in search of a Rago girdle - I give you Joan Holloway, Foxtrot India and two outfit collages (and my evident obsession with red, cream and pink - I think I'm going to have to revisit fire-engine red hair). Oh I do love curves!!
